CIM Conference & Exhibition Edmonton May 3-9, 2012 (8:00 am - 8:00 am)
Technical Program
Conference Technical Program tracks will include sessions on geology, exploration, development, engineering and operations. The impact of global warming and mining in Arctic regions will also be examined.
A Corporate Social Responsibility track will focus on how the industry can ensure the responsible use of metals and minerals from high-risk regions of the world.
Best practices in maintenance, engineering and reliability will also be discussed at length.
Special Features
The Canadian Rock Mechanics Association (CARMA) will host the 21st Canadian Rock Mechanics Symposium – RockEng12 – Rock Engineering for Natural Resources in conjunction with the conference Technical Program.
Women in Mining Canada (WIM) will host a forum highlighting how women from all facets of the minerals industry are helping break down the barriers to full inclusion in a traditionally male-dominated industry. A lineup of panelists will share personal and professional accounts of their journeys to overcome conventional limitations and create a new face on the mining front.
Face to Face
The mining encounter is the business equivalent to speed-dating. It consists of pairing participants with their top prospective business partners, based on specific criteria they provide — matches made in business heaven! Each exclusive meeting allows you to identify business opportunities, develop new market niches, create strategic alliances and find new distributors, suppliers or sub-contractors.
Social Program
An array of exciting social activities will take place throughout the conference schedule, including receptions, luncheons, dances and more. Be sure to attend the CIM Awards Gala, where the leaders of our industry are honoured in grand style. The Opening Reception and the Closing Luncheon are also key events for networking.
Guest Program
Edmonton’s Guest Program will include vibrant cultural, artistic and culinary excursions. Included in the plans are trips to explore the beautiful natural environment of the North Saskatchewan River Valley, where the convention centre is conveniently located.
Fields Trips
Edmonton, which is located in close proximity to many mining and processing operations, is optimally situated for field trips. Single-day round-trip visits to diamond, oil sands, coal, potash and uranium operations are planned. Because of site conditions and aircraft availability, the number of participants for each field trip will be limited.
Student Program
The Student Program is designed to help tomorrow’s mining professionals develop a broad network of industry contacts as they contemplate careers in the sector. The program will include a student poster session and presentations on a wide range of topics.
Short Courses & Workshops
Short courses and workshops will take place on the days preceding the conference Technical Program. The planned curriculum will include NI 43-101 Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects, Mining 101 – An Introduction to Mining and Mineral Processing, Uranium 101 and Management & Finance Day among others.
Sponsorship
CIM offers a wide range of sponsorship opportunities that allow your company to reach the decision-makers of the industry.
Theme
The theme of the CIM Conference & Exhibition 2012, “MINING FOR ALL SEASONS,” reflects our understanding that, although it is an ancient endeavour, mining and the subsequent provision of minerals, metals and materials is, and always has been, the foundation of our civilization. Mining has a fundamental impact on our daily lives; it helps house, feed, clothe, heat, move and energize humankind – in all seasons. It is essential to even the most high-tech machinery and gadgets of our modern world.
Edmonton
Located in central Alberta, Edmonton is the northern anchor of the Calgary-Edmonton corridor and is a cultural, governmental and educational hub, making it an ideal host city for the CIM Conference & Exhibition 2012. The city is geographically centred in a region of Canada that hosts world-class mining and minerals industries – diamonds, oil sands, coal, potash and uranium. This convention will provide a number of opportunities for knowledge-sharing, professional development and networking with friends and colleagues.
Exhibition
The 29th CIM Exhibition will feature the latest equipment, technology, processes
and services. Visitors to the show will meet new exhibitors and reconnect with
suppliers, contractors and consultants. It is the pivotal place to learn about the
tools, technologies, services and other opportunities that are available to strengthen your operations and profession. This is the place in Canada where buyers, planners, engineers, researchers, technical experts, managers and directors can meet the best equipment and service suppliers focused on serving the needs of the mining and minerals industry.
M4S - Mining for Society
The CIM Conference & Exhibition 2012 welcomes the seventh edition of CIM’s highly-acclaimed educational show for the general public. M4S — the educational show on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Materials — gives the public a unique opportunity to take part in practical and interactive demonstrations on how the earth’s resources are extracted, processed and transformed in a safe and responsible manner. Both the young and the young at heart will also receive important information about this rapidly growing sector that will be looking to fill over 100,000 jobs in Canada over the next decade. By highlighting the abundance of career opportunities and dispelling myths, M4S helps secure a prosperous future for mining.
Exhibiting at M4S is free and gives industry leaders an opportunity to better position themselves with the public. Working together at M4S, we can truly demonstrate our industry’s positive impact on everyday life.
