If you’ve ever spent time outside Alberta’s cities you’ve probably heard the term Texas Gate. And you probably know that a Texas Gate is different from a conventional gate—not to mention far more convenient because you don’t have to get out of your vehicle to open and close it. Yet the cattle still can’t get out.
A Texas Gate is essentially a metal grid in the roadway that will allow cars to drive over, but cattle have some trouble navigating, because the slats are just big enough for them to get their hooves stuck.
Greenglade Construction of Provost has manufactured and sold Texas Gates to companies and ranches across all three Prairie provinces. Greenglade’s Grant Hager admits that Texas Gates are his favourite items to build, but the company also makes other cattle equipment. These include bunks that the cattle feed out of and windbreaks.
