If you’re a regular spectator of bantam football, you probably never really gave much thought to where the bleachers you sit on come from. Westways Group does. In fact, the Fort Saskatchewan company will custom design, engineer, manufacture and install seating for pretty much any event.
Bleachers, however, aren’t even the tip of the iceberg for what this company can design and build. Westways specializes in pressure piping, vessels, modules, conveyors, industrial maintenance and fabrication. The company was responsible for a non-segregated tailings pilot plant at Albian Sands, a pump station for Inter Pipeline Fund, and a heavy metals recovery pilot plant for Titanium Corporation.
In 2009, Westways was responsible for the modules for the Williams Energy expansion in Redwater, which has been the favourite project so far for Del Hankinson, the president of the company.
In the fall of 2010, Westways made a big move to a seven-acre lot just outside Fort Saskatchewan. The shop features two 20-ton overhead cranes, larger offices, portable buildings and new equipment. Being in the Alberta Heartland also give the company easier access to the refineries and chemical plants that it does so much business for.
