RollFab Industries employees don’t see a lot of their finished projects. Many of the projects are commissioned from building suppliers, built in RollFab’s Calgary shop, then shipped north to be used in the oilfields.
RollFab Industries mainly builds oilfield skids but specializes in structural fabrication. Around town, you can see their work in building components, overhead cranes and exterior building walls. Ken McAlister, the owner, claims that their pride and joy is the stuff they get to see every day.
One of his personal favourite projects was an 18-foot “zoom-boom man basket” used in construction projects. To guarantee the quality of the work, RollFab had an engineering firm stamp and certify the project.
McAlister also claims that the company is willing to work with customers and “don’t turn down anything.” A quick peek at the RollFab website offers proof of that. One of the company’s first projects was a BMX starting gate. The gate was later donated to a local club.
Another example: A customer once approached the company about repairing the engine on a quad. As it turns out, many of the employees have a history of doing all sorts of repair—electrical, plumbing, structural, engine work—and took the engine apart, put in a new piston and a new connecting rod, thereby saving the customer from having to buy a new one.
“If the customer wants to come and pay for something,” McAlister says, “we’ll do it.”
