FROM RAILINGS TO PROTECTIVE COATING TO EXTRUSION TO STORAGE

PermaCorp Industries is the parent company of four different companies dealing with metal fabrication, railings, structural steel, powder coating, and storage and storage shelving.

Some information about the four:

  • PermaRail is responsible for railings, gates and fencing, and staircases. PermaRail makes all of these products from functional to decorative—it was a pioneer in the production of a glass spiral staircase. One of the company’s largest projects was building all the structural staircases going down to the tarmac for the expansion of the Edmonton International Airport.
  • PermaCoat deals with protective coating for steel for industrial, automotive, oilfield and commercial sectors. The coating is most used to hide imperfections in the steel. “For instance,” Manfred Schmidt, vice-president of Business Development, points out, “some of the rougher textures are applied to high traffic truck boxes where you get a tremendous amount of impact or resistance.” He adds that the textures and patterns of the coating, “to a certain degree…can be an art form.”
  • ProSource takes care of the aluminium extrusion, casting, and distributed part of the business. ProSource provides effective supply chain management, product sourcing and contract negotiations.
  • ProSpace is responsible for storage and storage shelving. Gone are the days of big, boxy filing cabinets; mobile units can handle anything from customer files in a dentist’s office to golf clubs, food and health services components, and sports equipment.

For PermaCorp, the signature project has been designing and building a truck safety lift—a lift that goes in the back of a three-quarter ton truck and hydraulically lifts of the truck to become a working platform that can telescope up and down and in and out.
